Pay range in job adverts: what the law requires

Pay transparency starts before hiring. What Article 5 of the Directive and four national laws require in job ads and interviews.

The EU rule

Article 5 of the Directive: applicants have the right to the starting pay or its range before the interview, based on objective, gender-neutral criteria, plus any relevant collective agreement terms. Employers may not ask about current or past pay. Job ads and titles must be gender-neutral.
